After Sosa learned he wasnt in the starting lineup today he left the ball park before the game. Word out of Chicago is management is pissed to the point they will try to trade Sosa even if it means paying some of his salary. Lets trade him pay 7 mill to the new team and give nomar the other 10 mill.

Yeah but who would want him. He is sporadic in the field.

He wouldn't be a bad DH over in the American League.

Very true but he is a man of pride and loves running out to the field. I wouldnt mind him being out here in boston. He could play some field and some DH...but that will create a controversy with ortiz as DH as mienkvich (spelling?) is the first basemen

I wouldn't be surprised if the MFYs made a play at him. They don't have spectacular talent at the DH spot, and Georgie loves those vets (eg Sheffield). This was actually the first thought that came into my mind when I read this thread.

True. Thats what I was thinking as well. You really have to but I don't mind them getting another bat. Can't hurt right? If they got a big pitcher then I will be scared.

Who cares what they have to give, how about a pack of gum? For the chance to get rid of 17 mil, the Cubs would/should take anything. That would free up a lot of money to sign other players.

Don't bet it on it though. My money is on Sosa being on the northside again next year, for one more year.

I agree. Unless the Yankees are willing to trade someone who has actually proven themsleves to the Cubs then there will be no deal to the Yankees.

If the Yankees were willing to eat Sosa's contract, you don't think the Cubbies would jump? I think they would do anything that would free up cash that would allow them to go off and get a solid closer, and just maybe, a little defense.

No one and I repeat NO ONE will eat up Sosa's contract except possibly the Cubs. I can't think of one reason anyone would want Sosa after unbelievably low numbers and a huge contract. I mean lets face it, now that Sosa doesn't take steriods he can't preform. The proof is in the pictures of before Chicago and the Cubs. Very slim chance that anyone will take Sosa because the Cubs don't eat contracts.

I wish I could go out and hit 35 homeruns and have that considered a bad year. Granted, on Sosa's standards that is a bad year, but 35 HRs is still big, and I think teams would be willing to take a chance on that.

Your right about that, but who wants to pay a guy $17 million to hit less than .250 and miss a month or two.

The Yankees won't be going after him. Why you ask? Because it makes no sense. They won't go after both him and Beltran. They may have a ton of money, but it's not inexhaustable. They would be out $35 M to sign both of them, and they won't be doing that, especially because they want to get a pitcher or two as well.

Phil Rogers had an article in the Chicago Tribune today saying Sosa could end up with the Royals or Rangers. Both teams are in the AL where Sosa could DH and could dump overpaid, unproductive players back on the Cubs.

Scenario #1: Sosa goes to KC, with Sweeney coming to Chicago. Sweeney still has 12 mill/year for three more years on his contract, which is alot considering he only plays half the games every year. When healthy, however, he's a solid hitter and decent fielder and a solid member of the community. Cubs already have Lee at first, however.

Scenario #2: Sosa goes to Texas, with Chan Ho Park coming to the North Side. Park may benefit from the move back to the NL and might even win the #5 spot in the Cubs rotation. Still, 13 million per year for a #5 starter? There is talk Soriano could be involved as well.

Either scenario is desirable for Chicago just as long as Sosa leaves. Insulting Dusty Baker is about the stupidest thing he ever could have done. Never has there been a manager who stands behind his players as much as Dusty and saying he's tired of having Baker blame him for the teams failings is just plain ludicrous. Sosa is a cancer that needs to be cut out. Who would have thought a life long Cubs fan would be saying that even two seasons ago?
