    Merry Christmas Sox fans:

WEEI in Boston has confirmed Jason varitek has accepted a 4 year 40 mil contract with Boston.

So The Sox get Miller, Clement & Varitek while NY has the RJ deal fall through and Houston offer Beltran a 6 year 96 mil contract.

Ho Ho Ho Sox fans

Nice moves by the Red Sox, but don't gloat about the RJ trade yet. My guess is that itll still go down, just with a different middleman.

Hey don't forget Rentaria. I'm a Cards fan and I know that he will be missed a lot, especially since we didn't get Cabrera and there are no good SS left. Be glad that you have one of the most underrated SS of our time. Hopefully the Cards can sign Cora and trade to get SD's SS.

So what did they do about the "No Trade" language the Tek wanted in his contract?

Man, I don't know how I'd feel about signing a 33 year old catcher to 10 mill a year for four years...

Are you nuts? He is a GREAT catcher. Even if his bat slows down over the next 4 years he is amazing at calling games.

At the formal announcement today at Fenway, Theo Epstein named Jason Varitek team captain. It was a suprise to all and Jason too. A very classy and over due honor for the person Theo said was " The heart & soul of the Red Sox".

Red Sox Nation is feeling pretty good today :D

    Merry Christmas to all.

It's not his bat I'd be worried about. Obviously you don't know anything about baseball, and what happens to a catcher after they've caught for ten seasons in the majors. Look at the numbers... and try and know what you're talking about before you call someone out...

So far, I have to say I like all of the signings by the Sox so far, and I think one of the most important ones was the non-signing of Pedro Martinez. Personally, he was a great pitcher and all, but when it counted against the Yanks he kind of ran out of gas. And if I remember correctly, when they were up big in one of those ALCS games, Martinez came in and started getting hit immediately and lasted like, 2/3rds of an inning. Not too cool. Then, on the way out, he talks shit about the Sox. That's cool, douchebag. You don't need a guy like that on your team anyway. Good pitcher, yeah, okay, but he's on the make for himself. Go to the Mets and finish behind the Marlins, Phillies, and Braves for the rest of your career. You should have a blast.

As for the recent signings of Wells, Clement, Miller and most importantly, Jason Varitek -- I think they're all great moves by the Sox that more than bolster the void left by Pedro's departure. And as for the Yankees, mindlessly pursuing Randy Johnson with a zombie-like mentality (and probably shocked that the Dodgers would dare question their role as sap in the Yankees ploy to get RJ at any cost), they'll probably get their quarry, but I am making the bold prediction that it will not get them another World Series.

By the way, here's one more little tidbit about Pedro:
"My heart will always be with the Boston fans. I hope that everyone who truly loves me will still support me now that I won't be with the Red Sox." -- Pedro Martinez, Dec. 14, 2004

Anyone see what the operative word in that sentence is?

Should Skank fans comment on signing over the hill players when their team makes a living out of doing so?

You have to remember that while tek is 33 he was a late bloomer and doesn't have the "wear" that some do.

Besides I-Rod is proving you can do it in your older years.

I like this signing. It feels good to get Tek done. The Sox are pretty much set aside from some tweaking. I like what Theo did. He made some solid moves and still has payroll flexibility. Key in todays MLB.

I Know a lot about baseball. So in 4 years come back here and see how wrong you are. Tek was a good signing and will do well here.

thanksf or that wvette...Yes you can do it in your older years and obviously Theo and the sox saw that tek would be able to.
